Job Description

Are you a proactive Maintenance Engineer with a knack for preventing equipment failures and ensuring efficiency? Join our dynamic team and play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards in quality, waste management, and operational efficiency. Working at our Distribution Centre, you will primarily work in engineering workshops, but tasks may also involve outdoor areas, roof spaces, stairwells, ducts, plant rooms, offices, and warehouses. Be prepared to work in various conditions, including warm, humid, cold, or wet environments, occasionally exposed to the weather.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Minimum NVQ Level 3 with an apprenticeship
  • Experience: Previous experience as a maintenance engineer in manufacturing, processing, warehouse, or cold store industries.
  • Skills:
    • Basic Health & Safety knowledge
    • Proficiency with computer applications (Word, Excel, Windows-based packages)

Desirable Skills:

  • PLC, hydraulics, temperature control, instrumentation, welding, FLT/MEWP license.
  • FGas certification (advantageous but not essential).
  • Experience with refrigeration cold stores is beneficial.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficient Task Management: Execute work assignments efficiently to maximize shift productivity.
  • Team Collaboration: Maintain equipment and hygiene standards, supporting logistics teams and colleagues during breaks or absences.
  • Procedure Adherence: Follow work instructions, procedures, and job descriptions consistently.
  • Task Completion: Ensure all Work Orders and Preventive Maintenance tasks are completed as scheduled.
  • Paperwork Management: Accurately complete and check all necessary documentation.
  • Cross-Functional Work: Collaborate with other departments to ensure the site runs smoothly and prioritized work is completed.
  • Problem Resolution: Quickly resolve mechanical and electrical issues, ordering spare parts and coordinating with contractors as needed.
  • Compliance: Adhere to company policies and regulations, maintaining high standards for safety and quality.
  • Communication: Provide detailed reports on engineering downtime, quality issues, and completed tasks to the Engineering Manager.
  • Preventive Action: Identify and address potential issues before they become critical.

  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm. No work on Bank Holidays or weekends, but you can opt in for overtime paid at:
    • Bank Holidays: Double time
    • Saturdays: Time and a half
    • Sundays: Double time
  • Call Rota: 1 in 3 call rota, with an additional £175 on call standby payment per month after passing probation. Call-outs are rare (1-2 times a year), paid at time and a half for a minimum of one hours labour.
