 The Role
Operating between Doncaster and Newcastle (LNE Route), you will be responsible for the safe and efficient driving of freight trains. This includes full train preparation, locomotive handling, fault reporting, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive freight trains safely, efficiently, and in line with operational plans.
  • Conduct full train and locomotive preparation duties, including fuelling and brake testing.
  • Carry out in-service train and locomotive fault finding and basic repairs (where competent).
  • Monitor and report train or track defects following company procedures and the Rulebook.
  • Perform freight and load examination duties.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism when interacting with colleagues, clients, and the public.
  • Undertake route learning and sign for routes upon completion.
  • Work various shift patterns, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Willingness to lodge away from home when necessary.

What We’re Looking For
Essential:

  • Train Driving Licence
  • Relevant traction knowledge and Personal Track Safety (PTS).
  • Understanding of freight rules and regulations.
  • Basic wagon knowledge.
  • Strong safety awareness and operational discipline.
  • Flexibility to work a range of shifts and travel as required.

Desirable:

  • Current route knowledge of the LNE Region.
  • Experience assisting with minor locomotive maintenance.
  • A passion for continuous learning and high standards of customer service.
