Reading | Full-Time, Permanent
Competitive Salary + Rotating Shifts + On-Call Rota + Career Progression

Are you an experienced maintenance professional ready to take the next step into leadership? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where no two days are the same?

We’re looking for a Senior Maintenance Engineer to join our dynamic team in Reading. You’ll play a key role in supporting the Head of Engineering, leading a team of engineers, and keeping our plant and machinery running at peak performance.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a strong maintenance background—whether in manufacturing, facilities, warehousing, food production, or another industrial setting—who’s looking to step into a position with clear progression to Engineering Manager.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading planned and reactive maintenance across plant and equipment
  • Supporting and mentoring a small team of engineers and assistants
  • Working closely with production to minimise downtime
  • Taking ownership of maintenance planning and spare parts inventory
  • Stepping in for the Head of Engineering as needed in meetings and audits
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives across the site

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a busy industrial or commercial environment
  • A team player with proven leadership or mentoring experience
  • Technically strong, with good knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems
  • Forward-thinking and solutions-focused, with a desire to progress
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts and cover call-outs when needed

Desirable Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • 18th Edition (for electrical bias)
  • Steam, gas or boiler qualifications (e.g. BOAS, COCN1) – an advantage
  • IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety training – desirable

Why Join Us?

We’re a well-established and growing operation that values our people. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of the engineering department and step into a leadership role with full support. If you’re ambitious, capable, and ready for a challenge – we’d love to hear from you.

Shift Pattern (3-Week Rotation)

  • Week 1 (Early): 05:00 – 14:00
  • Week 2 (Standard): 07:30 – 16:30
  • Week 3 (Late): 14:00 – 23:00
Participation in an on-call rota is also required.
