The Role

We are seeking a Controls Engineer to join our software engineering team. Our focus is on integrating devices and machinery to create innovative automation solutions and a long-standing reputation for delivering advanced solutions to renowned companies, particularly in the robotics and aerospace sectors.

In this role, you will support the successful delivery of diverse and exciting projects by leveraging your expertise in integrating and programming industrial robotic systems. We are particularly interested in candidates with extensive experience working with robots, including commissioning, writing TP & Karel programs, and solving complex industrial challenges.

Our projects range from simple machines performing dedicated tasks to complex, customizable cells with multiple robots and integrated technologies such as cameras, lasers, waterjet cutters, and even chainsaws. Your responsibilities will include developing software using a diverse codebase and commissioning new equipment, following detailed user manuals, and debugging common electrical issues.

This dynamic role promises variety, with no two days or projects being the same. The ideal candidate will have a passion for robotics and automation, a curiosity for learning new technologies, and a knack for problem-solving. The position offers the flexibility to work hybrid, with regular travel to our offices in Bristol and Dorset, and occasional travel to other client sites within the UK.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years programming automated Fanuc robots at an advanced level
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics), degree, preferably in engineering
  • Experience with Roboguide
  • Proficiency in high-level technical communication in English, both written and verbal
  • Strong willingness and ability to learn new technologies rapidly
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously
  • Competence in diagnosing common electrical issues
  • Willingness and ability to travel

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience commissioning and programming Siemens S7 PLCs and TIA Portal
  • PLC programming in IEC 61131-3 languages (ST essential)
  • Expertise in motion control, including VFD setup and drive tuning
  • Knowledge of functional safety (designing, programming, validating)
  • Experience with other industrial automation devices
